monday march 11th

it is just about twenty minutes after midnight on monday. i love mondays. 

despite there being lots of time between this post and the last, not too much has changed. well, i suppose there have been two kind of big changes. although, we will start with the things that have stayed the same.

work.

i still work at pengu stood and ccc. i love the pengu stood. i am still there on mondays, thursdays and fridays. i work 25 hours a week there. they are so kind and i love all of my coworkers they literally rock so much. everyone is such a nerd. i am really grateful for this past year there. i have grown sooooo much as an artist and teacher it is slightly wacky. i really want to be full time there so i can quit the other stood. but tbh that may not happen bc the other stood ended up being a sort of shady business and my boss is strange. very kind but a lot of weird. 

i currently work there at the other stood on wednesdays but starting next week i will also work there on tuesdays bc my mortal enemy coworker from hell is dropping some hours. i dont hate it there but it is just annoying sometimes. we get paid on paypal and it makes taxes suck. i was there earlier today to mix clay and it brought me lots of joy. it's a good mix of no thought time and a really intense arm workout. i always forget my headphones or speaker. so the entire time my brain just goes "clay clay clay clay".

in august of last year i bought a used car! she is a 2012 honda civic and she is a pastel baby blue silver and i named her norene. she currently houses lots of ceramic materials and empty dunkin cups. 

cats.

we got another cat. 

we got him because june the cat turned out to be very evil. she would attack us in our sleep and we would have to lock her away from the rooms we were in. this basically defeated the purpose of having a cat. she was so nice for the first like month but then one day she decided to hate us. oh and that kitty cold? it was actually herpes. yes. cats can have herpes. unlike humans, cat herpes manifests as an upper respiratory infection so she never recovered from her "kitty cold". she wheezes and sneezes and snores every waking moment of the day. so, we gathered a lot of expert opinions and everyone said the same thing. you need to get your cat a cat. preferably a baby one bc she had just lost all of her babies and still was dealing with some weird cat nipple situation (she was suckin on those things like her life depended on it). 

so, one day when i was at work alec went and adopted a kitten. he was three months old and so weird and tiny but strangely long. his original name was pinto which we thought was very cute but was definitely not the correct fit for him. after about a week of being nameless, his first vet apt came around and we had to choose something so alec chose dill, as in dill pickle. which was fine at first. but we also ended up not liking that. then for like two days he was waylen jennings but that was no good. the longest one we had for him was ca$h, which was funny and went well with june but alas, not good either. there was a smattering of others like christopher, willie, toast etc. etc. until one day it came to me. massimo. it was hilarious. and then we shortened it to momo. which just fits him so well. for some reason this godforsaken website is not allowing me to upload photos but trust it fits perfectly. 

momo and june were besties from the start. he would nurse from her and she would clean him. so sweet. but unfortunately, june had another problem. on top of her herpes and nipple issues she also had butt parasites. we had to quarantine them from one another for 20 days and it was heartbreaking. this was in like september i think. 

junie is defintely alec's cat and momo is definitely mine. he sleeps on my neck like a scarf every night. and, he also makes pottery with me. momo is a production potter and i am working on making a website to sell his wares. he has grown quite the expansive international fanbase on social media. oh yea, i forgot to mention i also now own a wheel. summer 2023 was the time of purchases: cat 1, car, wheel, cat 2. 

some other updates, chelsea now lives in london because she is doing a film grad school program which is crazy cool. alec and i host house shows at our apartment and we call it the side room. we have had lots of success and its been lots of fun. we just had our third show last night. jordan is coming to chicago this upcoming weekend! i am working on a funky fresh ramen bowl for ben but i fear it may not be out in time, but that is ok because it gives me a grand excuse to visit her in milwaukee :,,, BEFORE SHE MOVES DOWN TO CHICAGO. which is quite simply the most grandest update of them all. 

anywhomst. i think that is just about it, life is nice. it is calm and predictable and happy.

in memoriam 

i posted this and then realized a lot more actually happened and i needed to share this:

so many people died last year. here is the timeline of events:

august: my mom's sister laurie died

september: maisey the dog died at 14 years old 

october: my mom's brother skip died

november: my mom's sister debbie was brought up to chicago from arkansas bc she had cancer and didnt want treatment

december: debbie died a strange and traumatizing death

january: alec and i fostered debbie's dog, mara, a dobermann and we wanted to keep her so badly. she loved the cats and us and it was beautiful. at the end of the month she was picked up by one of debbie's friends who rescued dobermanns and also has a giant farm with a ton of acres in ohio. it was the right thing to do but i miss her every damn day. 

once i get this mf website to work and add pictures, ill put so many pictures of mara. i miss her.
